ROLE PURPOSE
The communication officer will be responsible for the implementation of Plan International earthquake response communication strategy. He/she will provide strategic guidance in communication across the organization in accordance with Plan’s corporate policies and procedures by using timely and relevant methods to promote Plan International’s activities globally.
DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE
Under the direct supervision of the Emergency response manager and the guidance of the Advocacy and Influencing Manager the communication officer will be in charge of implementing communication activities in coordination with program colleagues.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
External Communications (‘external’ refers to audiences outside Plan as a global organization)
Ensure effective communication in order to maintain a good image for the organization and build the organization influence, in line with Plan International’s Global Humanitarian Strategy.
Support Emergency Manager in developing and implementing project-specific Communications Strategies, in line with each donors’ guidelines and requirements.
Facilitate relevant visits of international journalists, National Office Media & Comms and other interested parties and co-ordinate their activities with the partners.
Internal Communications (‘internal’ refers to audiences within Plan as a global organization, including within Plan International Lebanon)
Advise management on various, creative, diversified and effective channels to communicate to external audiences.
Assist in drafting press releases, press advisory messages and press packets in English and Arabic for journalists as authorized by the Country Director and under the supervision of Influencing and Advocacy Manager.
Develop content and audiovisual material for Plan’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms as relevant, to ensure regular influencing messages are being uploaded and Plan’s online audience are constantly engaged.
Visibility and branding
Ensure the correct use of all the branding elements in all the external communications materials and public events, including logos and layouts.
Assist in Producing targeted and quality communications and visibility materials such as best practices, success stories, case studies, brochures, posters, videos, photos, etc.
Assist in Establishing, and maintaining strategic partnership with media and public relations partners in order to boost Plan’s image, profile and visibility in the Country.
Other Responsibilities:
Success Metrics: No violations of the corporate standards and policies.
1. Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
1. Complies with corporate policies and standards: Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, IT Policy, Anti –Fraud and Corruption Policy, Confidentiality Policy, Code of Conduct, Whistle Blowing, HR Policies and Procedures.
2. Ensures commitment to Plan’s position on promoting girls’ rights and gender equality, and integrating this into all aspects of work.

Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of:
The context, particularly on issues affecting the rights and well-being of children and young people, especially girls and the most vulnerable
Local laws relating to children’s rights and gender equality
Knowledge and experience in humanitarian principles communication

Qualifications and Experience
BA Degree in Communication, Mass Media, Journalism, Advertising, or related field.
Minimum 3years of demonstrated experience working as a professional communicator in an NGO.
Hands on experience in humanitarian communications
Proficiency in MS Office required with graphic design and photo/video experience preferred
Skills
Strong organizational abilities; able to prioritise and manage short-term and continuing projects across diverse themes despite competing deadlines.
Strong commitment to child safeguarding policies both inside and outside the workplace.
Ability to produce quality photos and videos with limited resources.
Strong character traits, including team work, striving for high performance, emotional stability, resilience, adaptability, and ability to handle stress, strong initiative and self-motivation, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty and physical fitness to travel are essential.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
