Background & Introduction

Codi is a combination of a coding bootcamp and a leadership programme, based in Lebanon. Since 2017 Codi has operated solely from Beirut, but in 2021 Codi expanded to Tripoli and Zahle. Codi’s aim is to get underprivileged youth to participate in the growing needs of the local ICT sector. It is a school of web / mobile programming and of many broader life skills. It is free for students and targeted at young individuals who have a passion for programming and want to build a career in technology but lack the financial means to pursue a traditional university education. Mission

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic English teacher to join our team full-time in Tripoli. Our English curriculum is designed by our Head of English and it is built to complement and assist the Core technical programme. Consequently, our students have varied English levels (currently taught in 3 groups: Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced).

We are looking for someone who is adaptable and flexible in their approach and able to understand the requirements of each individual student. We want our graduates to leave Codi with the employability skills to survive in a competitive market, including full English proficiency.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Plan and conduct structured English lessons for 3 groups of various abilities
• Align English sessions with the Core programme, ensuring it compliments the necessary skills
• Assist students with advice and coaching with any English-medium endeavours e.g. presentations, CVs, cover letters etc.
• Maintain and update tracking and progress systems for each student and use this to ascertain key trends and requirements for sessions and necessary curriculum implementations
• Be creative and interested in new and innovative teaching methods
• Deliver one-to-one English speaking sessions to students to ensure language exposure
• Collaborate with Head of English to recognise issues students are facing and recommend solutions
• Provide regular reports to the Head of English with regards to students’ progress
• Develop and implement DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds feel welcome, included, and supported.
• Provide training to students and staff on topics such as unconscious bias, microaggressions, and cultural sensitivity to help them understand and promote inclusivity.
• Provide support and guidance to students who have experienced discrimination or harassment.
• Facilitate discussions among students and staff on topics related to DEI to promote awareness, understanding, and respect for different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
• Work with students and staff to ensure that they are following ethical standards and behaving with integrity, particularly in regards to issues of intellectual property and plagiarism.
• Provide resources to students and staff, such as reading materials and workshops, to help them learn more about DEI and promote a more inclusive learning environment.

Profile Requirements

• Be a native English teacher and have the necessary qualifications and demonstrated experience in teaching English to a diverse demographic
• Be able to foster rapid improvement in students’ spoken and written English capabilities in a relatively short time frame
• Prepare students for employment, providing them with the necessary business English skills

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Fluency in English (ideally mother tongue)
• Enthusiastic, well-organised, efficient, flexible, keen to learn new skills
• Ability to participate within a multidisciplinary team and act autonomously as needed
• Background in developing and implementing DEI initiatives

Schedule & Compensation:

• Full-time (5 days a week, 9-5)
