The successful candidate will be based at the Global Health Institute offices and will be required to start as soon as possible from the time of the acceptance notification.
The Global Health Institute (GHI) at the American University of Beirut is looking for a Junior Biostatistician.
The biostatistician will work closely with different research teams at the Global Health Institute on designing new studies, and analysing and interpreting statistical data related to different projects of the program. The biostatistician will work on a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
- Collaborating with researchers to design and develop research studies of different designs.
- Providing guidance on appropriate study design, sample size determination, randomization methods, and data collection procedures.
- Developing and implementing statistical analysis plans for research projects, including data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, and hypothesis testing.
- Performing data cleaning and management
- Applying advanced statistical methods to analyse complex datasets, such as longitudinal data, and multivariate analysis.
- Conducting power and sample size calculations to ensure studies are adequately powered.
- Performing statistical modelling and data visualization to effectively communicate research findings to audience.
- Interpreting and summarizing statistical results in research reports, publications, and presentations.
- Training research staff on statistical concepts and methods if needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
- A master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field. A PhD is a plus.
- At least 2 years of proven experience working as a Biostatistician preferably in academic research environment.
- Proficiency in statistical software packages such as SPSS, SAS, or STATA.
- Strong knowledge of statistical methodologies, study design, and data analysis techniques.
- Experience with public health data and big datasets, including observational studies, and large-scale population datasets.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply statistical concepts to complex research questions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey statistical concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audience.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.
