We are seeking an Economic Research Officer to join our team at ALI. In this role, the officer will be responsible for conducting research, collecting data, and providing economic analyses to support our organization's advocacy efforts. He/She will collaborate closely with the General Manager, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders to develop policy position papers, advocacy strategies, and economic projections.
This is a full-time, professional salaried position reporting directly to the General Manager.
The initial duration of this position is 6 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs.
Responsibilities:
The specific responsibilities of the Economic Research Officer will include:
- Conducting statistical and economic analyses of current macroeconomic, microeconomic, and regional data, and creating a monthly summary for our members.
- Identifying meaningful trends and opportunities in the industrial sector and effectively communicating them to management, members, and stakeholders.
- Acting as the research coordinator for all research projects, including writing terms of reference for projects commissioned to third parties and ensuring research quality supervision.
- Interpreting data, analyzing results using analytics, research methodologies, and statistical techniques.
- Developing and implementing data analyses, leveraging data collection systems, and employing strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
- Preparing, analyzing, and summarizing various weekly, monthly, and periodic economic updates as requested by the General Manager.
- Analyzing market trends for different stakeholders (members, board) and creating reports, specifications, instructions, and flowcharts.
- Producing professional, complete, concise, and accurate reports, proposals, and other documentation required to support advocacy efforts of the Board members.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics/Statistics, or a related field with a focus on quantitative and/or analytical skills.
- 2 to 5 years of experience as an economic researcher or assistant economic researcher, preferably in an applied field working for the banking sector (economic research), economic or business magazine, or BDS provider.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating abundant information with accuracy.
- Ability to write reports effectively.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Language proficiency in Arabic and English, with knowledge of French being a plus.
- A collaborative working style and the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to quickly grasp complex issues and distill them for non-specialist audiences.
- Good interpersonal skills, well-organized, excellent attention to detail, task management skills, flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks within deadlines.
