Background
DCA Lebanon has worked in mine action since 2007. In addition to reducing the harm from explosion, clearance activities also release contaminated land for socio-economic development in the context of rising demands from the local and refugee population. In 2012, DCA began implementing humanitarian and development projects through local partners and scaled up its operations in 2021 due to the deepening crisis in country.
Role
The overall objective of this role is implementing activities in a manner that leaves considerable positive impact on children, youth, and caregivers in the aim of promoting their wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments to identify children's emotional and psychological needs, trauma exposure, and strengths.
- Facilitate group sessions, workshops, and individual counselling sessions to address children's psychosocial needs.
- Create a safe and supportive environment that encourages open communication, self-expression, and trust.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to the child's psychosocial support.
- Plan and implement psychosocial support activities and programs that are age-appropriate and culturally sensitive. These activities may include individual counselling, group therapy, art therapy, play therapy, recreational activities, and educational workshops.
- Prepare daily plans prior to every PSS session in line with the agreed upon PSS curriculum; prepare appropriate materials and/or visual aids in advance of the session.
- Conduct pre- and post-assessment sessions to gauge the beneficiaries’ progress towards their learning and development goals.
- Ensure that all assessments, follow-ups, and weekly & progress reports are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain quality up-to date documentation on all interactions with beneficiaries and their parents.
- Plan, prepare, develop, and implement PSS tools and resources to demonstrate progress and growth in beneficiaries learning and development goals.
- Build trusting relationships with beneficiaries.
- Ensure the activities and sessions are following safe learning practices at all times.
- Follow up on the beneficiaries’ wellbeing, attendance, and specific needs.
- Report on the number of individuals, participations, achievements, and new registration requests; update Program and Technical team on any issues, challenges, or gaps in implementation.
- Ensure that all data collected is entered and reported in a timely manner (monthly). Contact CwDs and their families regarding any updates and changes in PSS.
- Collaborate closely with project’s team to monitor activities with existing PSS and use PSS selection criteria effectively.
- Respect and apply all principles of PSEA and demonstrate high commitment to report any sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.
- Facilitate referral of identified needs to humanitarian organizations and other service providers, ensuring follow up and feedback to the community.
Background
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly with refugees and host communities delivering Focused PSS activities.
- Experience working directly with children, women, and girls.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to human rights, gender equality, non-discrimination
- Flexible pro-active attitude.
- Ability to work well as an individual and in a team.
- Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment.
- Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts.
- Degree in Social Work or related field.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
