The Driver will work under the anticipated GIZ-funded Cash for Work project detailed below:

The project comprises three types of cash for work activities targeting 500 workers: food production activities, including the production and distribution of daily meals and preserves baskets to 400 vulnerable families in targeted neighborhoods; agricultural activities including urban farming, small-scale farming and composting; and crafts activities including quilting, and possibly wood work, pottery, shoemaking, or copper production. In addition, of a Full-Stack Web Development VT targeting 25 women from vulnerable neighborhoods.  All sub-activities will run for 3 cycles, and each cycle will start with a period of training, part of which will be technical, and will differ from one sub-activity to another, and part of which will be cross-cutting across all sub-activities, over two days. The latter part will include onboarding training on PSEA, code of conduct, non-violent communication, work ethics and well-being. Once training is complete, the workers will move on to the production phase.

This key role is responsible for the first line of activity that tackles food production, ensuring that food products meet the established standards of quality and food safety, and that the products are in line with the specifications.

Job Description:

1. Safe Transportation:
   • Safely operate the project vehicle(s) to transport project staff, beneficiaries, and materials to and from project sites and other designated locations.
   • Adhere to traffic rules, regulations, and safe driving practices at all times.
   • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the project vehicle(s) to ensure their roadworthiness.
   • Monitor fuel consumption and maintain accurate records of mileage and vehicle usage.
2. Logistics Support:
   • Assist in loading and unloading project equipment, supplies, and materials onto the vehicle(s).
   • Ensure the safe and secure transportation of project-related items.
   • Coordinate with project staff to determine transportation needs and schedules.
   • Assist in coordinating vehicle maintenance and repairs as required.
3. Route Planning and Navigation:
   • Plan and follow the most efficient and safe routes for each trip, taking into consideration road conditions, traffic, and project requirements.
   • Use navigation tools or maps to locate project sites and other destinations as needed.
   • Stay informed about the local road network, construction sites, and potential obstacles that may affect travel routes.
4. Vehicle Maintenance and Documentation:
   • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the project vehicle(s), both inside and outside.
   • Perform routine checks and inspections of the vehicle(s) to identify any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
   • Report any vehicle malfunctions or damages immediately to the project supervisor.
   • Keep accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, fuel consumption, and expenses.
5. Safety and Security:
   • Follow all safety and security protocols and guidelines established by the organization.
   • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude towards project staff, beneficiaries, and other road users.
   • Take necessary precautions to protect project personnel, equipment, and materials during transportation.
6. Compliance and Reporting:
   • Adhere to the organization's policies and procedures related to driving and vehicle usage.
   • Comply with all local laws and regulations governing transportation and driving.
   • Report any accidents, incidents, or violations to the project supervisor immediately.
   • Assist in compiling transportation-related data and information for project reporting purposes.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Valid driver's license for the relevant vehicle type (e.g., light vehicle, heavy vehicle, etc.).
• Proven experience as a driver, preferably in a similar project or organization.
• Good knowledge of local traffic laws, road regulations, and routes.
• Ability to maintain a clean driving record.
• Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle safety and security practices.
• Flexibility to work extended hours or on weekends as required by project needs.
• Familiarity with the local area and ability to communicate in the local language(s) is an advantage.
