General purpose:
Field Special Educator is responsible for the design and implementation of current principles and techniques of educating students with disabilities. The field special educator coordinates with education team to provide technical and operational support to the CBECE and Retention Support tutors. The special educator will have a significant role in conducting trainings and awareness sessions about inclusion and disability.
Support program quality :
- Provides recommendations to improve curriculum planning (curricular resources) and teaching methods to respond to the needs of all learners including those with disabilities.
- Writes, amends, and coordinates the development of educational materials, training manuals, and others, as needed.
- Supervises the tutors’ preparation and implementation of lesson plans, tests, and classroom teaching strategies in a way to be more inclusive.
- Ensures the school/classroom information and communication materials are accessible for all including students with disabilities.
- Evaluates the progress and effectiveness of the intervention done (with the support of the inclusion officer).
Collaboration :
- Works closely with the education team, the school social worker and inclusion officer to provide technical and operational support.
- Collaborates with tutors to prepare differentiated annual and lesson plans .
- Collaborates with tutors and other team members to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities.
- Plans meeting with parents of children with disabilities in relation to the IEP.
Capacity Building and sessions:
- Identifies training needs and supports the staff in strengthening their skills and competencies in inclusive education through developing and delivering training and ongoing mentoring.
- Conducts awareness sessions (in collaboration with the Inclusion Officer) to caregivers and students about inclusion, disability, and diversity.
Qualifications and skills :
- Bachelor’s degree in special education (Preferable with Teaching Diploma).
- At least three years experience in teaching and two years in managing or coordinating education programmes, preferably in an education in emergencies context or educational setting.
- Compassion and strong commitment to accompanying, serving, and advocating for refugees and other displaced people.
- Knowledge and understanding of the formal and non-formal education programmes in Lebanon.
- Fluency in verbal and written English and Arabic. Good knowledge of French language is an asset.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication, coordination, and presentation skills .
- Write and submit reports.
- Compassion and strong commitment for refugees and other vulnerable people .
- Proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly Word, Teams, PPT, Excel. Knowledge in using Kobo is an asset.
