About ARM
Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) is a non-governmental organization working to dismantle systemic racism and achieve social, economic, and gender justice for migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon since 2011. ARM envisions a just society where all migrants enjoy decent living and working conditions. Migrant Community Center (MCC) is a safer space for migrants living under Kafala. MCC works with migrant domestic workers to improve their living and working conditions and build their capacities to self-advocate for their rights as agents and leaders of change. Its programs include community-building, capacity-building, psychosocial wellbeing, community-led initiatives, and advocacy.
About MCC
Since 2010, MCC has been a safer space for migrants to meet, make friends, share resources, learn languages, build skills, produce knowledge, self-organize, and advocate for their rights as leaders of change. The center has united over 500 migrants representing over 20 nationalities.
Job Purpose
To coordinate activities that support migrant community organizing in Lebanon through the Beirut-based migrant community center operated by ARM
Job details
The jobholder’s responsibilities include:
MCC Members Board
- Developing the mandate of the Members Board in consultation with migrant communities at MCC
- Coordinating the founding, launching, training, and initiating meetings of the Members Board
- Facilitating coordination meetings, keeping meeting minutes, and following up on agreements
- Identifying opportunities for collaboration and participation in decision-making within ARM
- Contributing to the development, implementation, and MEL process of initiatives (ex: fundraisers, campaigns, projects, community-building activities, etc.) led by the Members Board as needed
- Overseeing budget expenditures, keeping in line with financial management handbook of ARM
- Supporting the Members Board in constructively resolving challenges and responding to feedback
- Acting as the focal point of communication for all matters pertaining to the Members Board, and ensuring efficient flow of information online and in-person
Migrant-Led Initiatives
- Providing ongoing support, including mentoring, training, fundraising, networking, logistics, etc. as needed for migrants leading initiatives (ex: starting an organization) within and beyond MCC
- Providing financial support for initiatives, keeping in line with the criteria and financial handbook
- Co-coordinating community fundraisers by migrant-led organizations (e.g.: chef residencies)
- Holding the MEL and financial processes for migrant-led initiatives supported by MCC
- Identifying networking, fundraising, and learning opportunities for migrant communities
- Supporting organizers in constructively resolving challenges and responding to feedback
- Liaising with the Capacity-Building Activities Officer to organize training workshops as needed
- Acting as the focal point of communication for all matters pertaining to migrant-led initiatives, and ensuring efficient flow of information online (ex: Whatsapp/Facebook groups) and in-person
Coordination & Admin
- Improving community participation processes for migrant-led initiatives and center activities in coordination with the MCC Team, ARM MEAL Team, and other Team Managers as needed
- Delegating center arrangements, logistics, and payments to the MCC Admin Officer as needed
- Liaising with relevant service-providers, and coordinating payments and paperwork as needed
- Planning, implementing, and overseeing safety measures for migrant-led initiatives involving MCC, and adhering to and suggesting improvements to ARM’s Child Safeguarding Policy
- Coordinating outreach activities, including the copy-writing, translation, and dissemination of relevant materials, with the support of the MCC Membership Officer & MCC Admin Officer
- Maintaining meaningful relationships with migrant communities & the MCC Members Board
Communication & Work Relationships
Internal Communication
- Regular contact with the MCC Team
- Occasional contact with the Advocacy & Casework Teams
- Occasional contact with the MEAL & Programs Teams
External Communication
- Regular contact migrant communities and MCC members
- Occasional contact with service-providers and volunteers
Framework, Boundaries, and Decision Making Authority
The MCC Activities Officer has the authority to make informed decisions on operational decisions and take necessary actions, in consultation with the MCC Manager.
Qualifications
Education
BA in social sciences
Experience required
- 4-6 years of experience in relevant roles, preferably in community centers, community organizing and/or NGOs
- Experience with and prior knowledge of issues relating to labor migration, anti-racism, feminism, civil society movements, human rights, non-profit organizations and activism
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Mandatory: Excellent knowledge and understanding of human rights and migration issues, and the situation of migrant workers in Lebanon
- Knowledge of planning processes, project management,, meeting facilitation, capacity-building, financial and budgeting processes
- Strong ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Ability to work on afternoon/ evening shifts on a regular basis, and Saturdays or Sundays shifts on a semi-regular basis (replacing weekdays)
Technical Skills:
- Languages: Proficiency in Arabic, English, and/or French, priority to trilingual applicants
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & MS Outlook
- Good command of online and social media tools
Soft Skills:
- Full commitment and adherence to ARM's mission and vision and a feminist leadership framework
- Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, alongside relationship building skills, listening, the ability to demonstrate diplomatic finesse and agility across cultures
- Mentorship skills of active listening, guidance, establishing goals, developing capabilities and inspire
- Positive attitude and ability to be flexible in an evolving organization
- Willingness to commit for at least one year
