The Social Workers’ Syndicate in Lebanon (SWSL) in partnership with UNFPA and The National Mental Health Program (NMHP) at the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), aim to enhance maternal care in Lebanon which includes services for mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence.

To establish a national reference document, “Maternal Mental Health (MMH) Guidelines” had been develop in collaboration between UNFPA and NMHP in English and translated as well to Arabic. The SWSL is looking for a consultant to edit and proofread the MMH Guidelines.

Under the supervision of the SWSL President and the Project Coordinator, the following tasks and responsibilities are sought from the consultant:

• Conduct a comprehensive review of the translated MMH Guidelines (Arabic language).
• Ensure grammatical accuracy, consistency, logical formatting, and coherence.
• Ensure that the content is free of spelling mistakes, and professionally and logically presented.
• Enhance cultural sensitivity and semantics of the translated document (where applicable).
• Share insights for improving the formulation of text, paragraphs and other content.
• Ensure that the terms used are in-line with the glossary of terms used for mental health.
• Prioritizing work to meet strict deadlines.

Competencies and Qualifications

• MA in translation. Ph.D is a plus.
• Mastery of Arabic and English languages (verbal and written). French is a plus.
• Familiarity with a variety of subject matters, including technical, legal, medical, and general content. Familiarity with mental health terminology is required.
• Competent in cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt or nuance message according to the target audience.
• Strong knowledge of semantics and translation accuracy.
• Ability to adhere to established guidelines and work within existing frameworks.
• Prior experience in a non-profit or international field.
• Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and have professional teamwork skills.
• Sharp eye for details
• Flexibility and ability to meet deadlines.
• Sworn Translator status is a plus.
