JOB DESCRIPTION

The Education Officer assumes a vital role in NRC Education Programs which are: the Learning Support Services (LSS) program, which provides educational support to students in main school subjects; the Safe and Inclusive Schools (SIS) program, which provides training and coaching to school personnel along with the formation of school committees to make the schools more safe and inclusive; and the Better Learning Program (BLP) which provides psychosocial and study skills support to students.

The responsibilities of the Education Officer encompass organizing workshops, conducting capacity- building activities for MoE personnel and community staff, overseeing the Reading Recovery Program, establishing Safe and Inclusive School Groups, and integrating NRC packages into Formal Schools. Additionally, the Education Officer plays a pivotal role in implementing NRC partnerships with Formal Schools, involving liaison with school personnel, logistical coordination, and data collection for workshops, capacity-building activities, and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1- Roles and Responsibilities

Generic Responsibilities:

  • Ensure strict adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Implement Core Competency projects within the assigned portfolio in accordance with the action plan.
  • Prepare and develop necessary  status reports as required by management.
  • Maintain a systematic filing system for documents.
  • Prioritize project beneficiaries in the greatest need and actively seek improved approaches for assistance.
  • Foster the exchange of ideas to enhance technical practices.
  • Promote and uphold Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)standards and principles both within NRC and among the beneficiaries served by NRC.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute activity schedules in alignment with established plans for the different NRC Education Programs.
  • Conduct regularvisits to formalschools to monitorand oversee activities related to LSS, SIS, BLP, and RRP.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for BLP and RRP facilitators, ensuring their readiness to deliver effective instructions.
  • Execute workshops and capacity development activities for communitystaff and Ministryof Education (MoE) School Personnel, including principals and teachers.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on projectactivities.
  • Identify implementation needs and prepare purchase requisitions in coordination with the line manager.
  • Compile distribution lists and generatedonation certificates when necessary.
  • Provide supportto community staff reporting to the EducationOfficer and effectively coordinate with other units.
  • Maintain accuraterecords of staffattendance and assistin the preparation and follow-up of purchase requisitions and monthly payments.
  • Ensure the collection, documentation, and sharing of activity-related data with relevantstaff, ensuring its accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of activity participants, offering support and guidance as required.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify and address challenges in the implementation of NRC Education Programs.
  • Perform otherassigned duties as required.

Critical Interfaces

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Relevant core competency implementation staff
  • Support teams: Finance, HR, Admin and Logistics
  • Communications staff

Scale and scope of position

  • Staff: around 40 Incentive Based Volunteers (IBVs+)who support in implementing NRC Education Programs.
  • Stakeholders: Ministryof Education Personnel (schools principals and teachers)
  • Budgets: N/A
  • Information: One drive, Okta.
  • Legal or Compliance: NRC Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption Policy, Child Safeguarding Policy, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP).

QUALIFICATIONS

2- Competencies

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organization to deliver the desired results. They are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following categories:

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working within the technical expertise area in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Previous experience of working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Good English language knowledge.

Context/specific skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with adolescents and children.
  • Proficiency in Child Protection and Psychosocial Support.
  • Previous experience working with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs)in a humanitarian context, preferably within the field of education.
