Job Overview
The Project Lead reports directly to the Deputy Director and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of SMEX’s projects, ensuring that the projects are delivered as per SMEX guidelines, project timeline and donors’ compliance. The Project Lead would also be responsible to provide guidance and leadership to the team,  coordinate with different stakeholders, and work closely with the MEAL department to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that technical projects are executed in accordance with the established framework and work plan.
• Collaborate with partners to review and monitor performance plans, ensuring that project priorities remain on course.
• Provide financial and operational support, including budget management and timely reporting to optimize resource utilization.
• Take the lead in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports through both formal presentations and written submissions.
• Conduct systematic reviews of potential risks and challenges to ensure the quality of project implementation and compliance. Develop and communicate mitigation strategies, including necessary resource allocation.
• Develop and implement a clear strategy to enhance program quality and compliance within the project's delivery.
• Work closely with the MEAL Officer to establish a solid monitoring and evaluation framework, complete with appropriate indicators for assessing progress and the impact of interventions.
• Foster active and cooperative relationships with key stakeholders, including project partners, implementing agencies, and related institutions.
• Actively engage and effectively represent SMEX in strategic partnerships with relevant organizations (local and international) and governmental entities as appropriate, to ensure impact and visibility of the project.
• Cultivate appropriate internal and external working relationships and partnerships to support high-quality project delivery and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Social Work, Public Health, Political Science, or any relevant field (Masters’ Degree preferred)
• Familiarity with SMEX's core work and a shared commitment to human rights values, including privacy, users’ rights, digital surveillance, data protection, freedom of expression, accessibility, and open culture
• Proven track record in successfully planning, implementing and monitoring projects in the NGO sector
• Able to effectively communicate and engage with various stakeholders including donors, beneficiaries, partners, and team members
• Able to set clear project goals, develop strategies, and create actionable plans is crucial for achieving the SMEX's mission and objectives
• Proven experience in managing budgets and financial reporting
• Proficient in analyzing data to compile comprehensive MEAL reports
• Possesses in depth knowledge of digital rights and communities in the region
