SKOUN is a Lebanese, non-profit, non-governmental organization and one of the first outpatient facilities that provide accessible Treatment, Education and Protection for all people who use drugs while maintaining its values regarding accessibility, integrity and dignity.
For 20 years, SKOUN has been caring for the most vulnerable populations in Lebanon and strives to ensure drug use and addiction are treated as primary health issues.
About the project:
“Under the project of “Improving Mental Health and Well-being of People Living in Lebanon” A consortium of three organizations, MdM, Skoun, Embrace, and the National Mental Health Program (NMHP), supported by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), aims to improve the opportunities for women, men, boys, girls, and gender variant individuals in Lebanon to enjoy the best possible mental health and wellbeing. The consortium aims to reach its objective by supporting community-based Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) and Substance Uses (SU) systems offering appropriate, quality, and gender-inclusive services to all people living in Lebanon, particularly the most vulnerable groups and people at risk while tackling gender barriers in service access and gender biases in service provision. The specific activities of the project target the different levels of the social-ecological model with activities designed and aimed at the individual, interpersonal, organizational, and community levels”.
Summary and General Description
REGISTERED NURSE (RN) will be responsible for performing medical tests, assessments, and follow-up for the substance use (SU) and Mental Health patients'
- Conduct the medical assessment of the patients
- Administer urine tests “for SU patients”
- Administer injection, when required.
- Follow up on medication reconciliation, lab tests, and medication stock
- Coordinate with the multidisciplinary team
- Participate in the awareness sessions and support groups if within his/her field of expertise.
- Participate in the capacity building of the PHCC medical staff, whenever is needed.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Conduct the medical assessment for the patients and administer urine tests, when needed
- Assess the case medically before each psychiatrist visit
- Fill out the MH nurse intake and progress notes forms
- Psychoeducation for patients and caregivers about the medication, HIV, and Hepatitis B and C
- Administer and document urine tests/ results for all SU patients
- Administer injection, when and if required
2. Follow-up medication reconciliation, lab tests and medication stock
- Remind the case managers about the next psychiatric patients’ appointments
- Follow up the tests recommended by the psychiatrist with the Case Manager/ therapists and the patients
- Ensure that weekly OST prescriptions are correctly filled and comply with MOH protocol
- Follow up on any side effects from the Psychotropic medication in coordination with the Psychiatrist.
- Follow up on medication stock, coordinate with the pharmacist or medical focal point of the hospital and MOPH and consistently inform the CMH-SUC team of any shortage of medications
3. Responsible for the patients’ file
- The nurse will make sure that no one will have access to the patients’ files except the CMHC team and that all hard copies are returned daily
- Responsible for safekeeping doctor’s prescription pads and stamps
4. Responsible for the link between psychiatrist, Case Manager and Psychologists
- The nurse will manage the link between patients that are followed with other NGO/INGOs and are referred only for psychiatric purposes
- The nurse will work in coordination with the team and will be part of the technical meetings/case discussions
- Participate activity in the treatment action plan of the patient, in coordination with the CMH-SUC team.
5. Reporting and meetings
- Provide weekly reports.
- Reporting the data in the request of the database.
- Participate in the team meetings in CMH-SUC
- Participate in the supervision meetings’ provided by SKOUN
Qualifications:
- University degree in Nursing- Registered Nurse “Additional Addiction studies and experience are a plus”
- About 2-4 years related experience; of which up to 2 years should be in a similar position/responsibility and preferably in a similar field/ NGOs (Knowledge in Substance Use, is a plus
- Knowledge of Harm Reduction philosophy, is a plus
- Fluency in English and Arabic
The RN will work closely with the clinical staff at Tripoli Center “Al Rahma Primary Health Care Center” and report directly to the HQ Head Nurse and Center supervisor.
