Project Officer

Project Title: Dealing with the Past – Reconciliation of the Memory of War

Position: Project Officer

Sector: Peacebuilding – Women Peace and Security

Funded by: UN Women

Location: Lebanon- 6 Locations to be determined

Level of effort:

  • 125 days per year – Total 250 days over 23 months
  1. Background:

The “Dealing with the Past and Reconciliation of the Memory of the Lebanese Civil War” project is a groundbreaking initiative led by women and funded by the United Nations Women (UNW) under the Women, Peace and Security agenda. This project acknowledges the crucial role that women play in promoting sustainable peace, acknowledging their unique perspectives and contributions in post-conflict settings

  1. Project Overview:

The project aims to address the complex legacy of the Lebanese Civil War, fostering a comprehensive understanding of historical events and promoting reconciliation among communities affected by the conflict. Through a gender-sensitive lens, the project seeks to empower women as key agents of change in the peacebuilding process.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:

 

    1. Logistical Coordination:

Plan and coordinate all logistical aspects of the project in Lebanon, including venue selection, transportation, catering, and equipment setup.

Collaborate with local vendors and service providers to ensure the seamless execution of project activities.

Maintain an organized record of all logistical arrangements and expenditures, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

    1. Facilitation of Sessions:

Assist in the development of session materials and content tailored to the historical context and sensitivities of war memory in Lebanon.

Act as a facilitator during project sessions, fostering an environment conducive to open dialogue and constructive discussions.

Work closely with project partners and participants to address any cultural or contextual nuances during sessions.

    1. Timekeeping and Scheduling:

Develop and maintain a detailed project schedule, outlining key milestones, deadlines, and activities, taking into consideration local cultural norms and holidays.

Ensure the timely commencement and conclusion of project sessions and events, accommodating the preferences and constraints of participants in Lebanon.

Coordinate with local stakeholders to align schedules and facilitate maximum participation.

Manage the booking of venues, meeting spaces, and any required accommodations for project-related activities in Lebanon.

Coordinate reservations for external speakers, presenters, or guests involved in project events, ensuring their familiarity with the local context.

Ensure all bookings align with the project's budget and logistical requirements while adhering to local customs and regulations.

  1. Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Conflict Resolution, Social Sciences).

Proven experience in project coordination, particularly in the context of reconciliation or peace-building initiatives in Lebanon.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including an understanding of the cultural and historical context of Lebanon.

Proficiency in MS Office and project management tools.

The Project Officer will report directly to Project Manager
