A- Description:

Dikken El Mazraa is an experimental and innovative solidarity grocery project in Beirut, founded in 2020 in the midst of the economic crisis to fight price inflation and poverty by pricing goods progressively according to the client/ member’s socio-economic situation. Its cross-subsidization model is based on middle- or high-income members buying with a profit margin from the shop allowing identified vulnerable communities to purchase at almost cost price (and sometimes at lower than cost price). Dikken is now adapting its economic model to increase self-reliance and aims to become an outlet for products from producers using eco- friendly practices.

B- Job Summary:

This position involves comprehensive operational management and product development, including addressing weaknesses, enhancing displays, improving delivery processes, managing the team and maintaining supplier relationships. Administrative tasks include report template improvements, inventory updates, job description revisions, and implementing a bonus system. Additionally, the role involves overseeing cash operations, training staff, and community engagement through member relations, and volunteer recruitment.

C- Main tasks and responsibilities:

Operational Management and Product Development:

  • Identify weaknesses within the operational process and develop solutions to increase sales and profits.
  • Manage the showroom, suggesting improvements in product display.
  • Develop and improve the customer delivery process.
  • Manage the team: Supervise employee work, manage leaves, and ensure smooth operations during absences.
  • Conduct small market research to propose an adapted pricing strategy and categorization of products in Dikken.
  • Support in building and managing relationships with suppliers, handling purchase requests, and identifying new suppliers and products aligned with Dikken’s mission.
  • Improve the procurement database, including a list of key food, beverage, and product suppliers with contact details.
  • Ensure health and hygiene policies and procedures related to food storage and display are in accordance with conventional grocery standards and Lebanese law.
  • Suggest new product lines for Dikken aimed at reaching financial sustainability.
  • Manage stock: Maintain accurate inventory records, track levels, and ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Suggest and organize workshops in line with Dikken’s mission.
  • Supervise and participate in building the online shop (e.g., taking pictures of products).
  • Manage and handle technical issues (internet, retail software, electricity, water, broken furniture, etc.) to maintain operational flow.

Administrative and Reporting:

  • Improve and update daily report templates.
  • Update inventory reports and documents.
  • Update job descriptions for each position.
  • Develop a monthly reporting process.
  • Suggest and develop a target-based bonus system for staff.
  • Oversee cash operations and manage cash flow.

Human Resources and Community Engagement:

  • Train staff on conventional grocery internal guidelines and customer relations.
  • Identify human resources needs and responsibilities for better operations.
  • Manage and develop member relations, understanding their item needs and finding solutions.
  • Support in social media management.
  • Identify, recruit, and engage volunteers to participate in and support the project's activities.

D- Requirements:

  • University degree in Business Management or related fields
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in retail management or related fields
  • Knowledge in the food and beverages sector in Lebanon
  • Good understanding of the retail and wholesale industry in Lebanon, including producers, suppliers, and distributors
  • Experience with e-commerce
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people, both staff and beneficiaries/ clients
  • Ability to effectively present information and maintain flexibility
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations and tight deadlines
  • Advanced writing skills
  • Strong reporting and analysis skills
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills
  • High communication and pedagogical capacities
  • Excellent command of word and excel
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent English and Arabic skills (written and oral).
