Tahaddi is a Lebanese NGO established in 2008 whose aim is to empower families facing extreme poverty through the provision of education, health, and psychosocial support. Tahaddi principally works in Hay el Gharbeh, an informal settlement in Southern Beirut. Tahaddi runs a non-formal education center, a primary health clinic, and a psychosocial center. In addition, Tahaddi operates an income-generating sewing workshop.
Tahaddi Lebanon is currently hiring a Youth Officer who will be responsible for the placement in training of the youth who completed their academic program with the Tahaddi Education Center or the Youth Transition Program (YTP).
The Youth Officer will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the training spaces in Tahaddi and ensure key program objectives are delivered in a timely fashion and at high quality.
Reports to: The Youth Program Coordinator and the Education Director
Location: Tahaddi Education Center, Hay el Gharbeh, Southern Beirut
Work type: Full time from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 3:15
Youth Officer Position Summary:
- Oversee the training spaces (sewing, woodworking and others if needed), and coordinate the purchase of needed materials.
- Oversee equipment maintenance ensuring that resources are used effectively and implements safety policies and practices.
- Monitor the in-house vocational programs, including setting goals. developing timelines, following up with instructors’ schedules, students’ outreach, registration and attendance.
- Oversee curricula development, implementation and evaluation of competencies, and updates them based on evaluations and learnings.
- Look for vocational, courses or training opportunities for youth in their last year of the Youth Transition program (YTP) and for youth who graduated from the TEC
- Follow up regularly on youth in training,
- Look for internships for youth who completed their training in Tahaddi or possibly outside Tahaddi. Follow up on the youth during their internship (attendance, evaluation of their work, commitment, etc.…)
- Follow up regularly at work or at home organizing individual or group meetings
- Organize, facilitate or give soft skills training to the graduated youth as needed
- Organize community services when opportunities are available
- Prepare statistics and write regular reports on the activities done or in progress.
- Support the Youth program Coordinator in tasks according to availability and abilities
- Perform any task requested as long as it is related to the Youth Officer portfolio
Youth Officer Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee day-to-day activities of vocational learning spaces
- Work closely with the Youth Program Coordinator, to organize registration and training schedules of students, and monitor trainers’ and students’ presence.
- Ensure implementation of safety policies and practices
- Work closely with the Head of Administration to coordinate purchasing of supplies for Tahaddi vocational workshops
- Coordinate with trainers to ensure proper use, maintenance, and replacement of equipment
- Coordinate with trainers to ensure proper evaluations of competencies on a regular basis and keep up-to-date educational records for participants
- Write curricula with instructors, if necessary, and/or update curricula based on evaluations and input from trainers.
- Look for new training or vocational opportunities, contact and meet with new partners
- Meet with graduated youth from the YTP or Tahaddi Education Center the year after their graduation for debriefing and soft skills training sessions.
- Meet with students’ parents when necessary.
- Contribute to the development and growth of the program in coordination with the wider YTP team
- Keep statistics and report on activities, visits to partners, etc. up to date on the SharePoint platform.
Education and Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
– Three years of experience in an NGO in the same field
