أظهرت الأرقام الصادرة عن المديرية العامة للأحوال الشخصية – وزارة الداخلية من 2020 إلى 2023، والتي درستها الدولية للمعلومات مقارنة بأرقام 2016- 2019، تراجع النمو السكاني بنسبة تقارب 40%-، من معدل زيادة سنوي بلغ 63.523 إلى 38.203 فردًا.
هذه الأرقام المقلقة تناولها مدير مركز “الدولية للمعلومات” جواد عدرا، في منشور له عبر حسابه على منصة “x”، مبديًا خشيته من تحولنا إلى مجتمع يشيخ.
ويقول عدرا في حديث إلى “ليبانون ديبايت”: “الموضوع خطير ولا يجوز التركيز على الموضوع الطائفي فقط بل على أننا مجتمع يشيخ، ويؤكد في هذا الاطار أن هناك عدة أسباب تقف خلف هذا التراجع في النمو السكاني، لافتًا إلى أنه حكمًا هناك تراجع في نسبة الولادات في لبنان، معللاً الأسباب بالأزمة المالية إضافة إلى ما مرّ به لبنان وإنتشار وباء كورونا، فمعظمها أسباب وجيهة لشيخوخة المجتمع اللبناني إلّا أنها برأيه ليست الأساس”.
ويركّز في تحليله للأرقام، على موضوع تراجع أرقام الزواج وإرتفاع نسب الطلاق وإنخفاض نسبة الولادات.
وإذْ يرى أن “هناك أسبابًا رئيسية ليصل المجتمع اللبناني إلى الشيخوخة ترتبط حتمًا بنمط حياة اللبنانيين، ولكن وفق عدرا فإن هناك بالتأكيد أسبابًا إقتصادية لناحية أن عدد الزيجات إنخفض أو أصبح أقل من السابق مقابل إرتفاع حالات الطلاق،كما بالتأكيد إنخفاض عدد الولادات وهو إتجاه جديد يسلكه اللبنانيون بسبب الأوضاع الاقتصادية، ولا يمكن إغفال ما تتسبّب به الهجرة من تراجع في الزيجات والولادات أيضًا، وهذه برأيه الأسباب المباشرة للتراجع بالنمو السكاني”.
ولا يتوانى عدرا، عن “وصف لبنان بالمجتمع الذي يشيخ بل إنه أمر ثابت، معلنًا أنه “سيتم نشر الدراسة حول هذا الموضوع والتي تصنّف الزيجات وحالات الطلاق والولادات وفق الطوائف، منبهًا أنها ستبيّن حجم الكارثة وسنرى النمو السكاني عند المسلمين أكثر من المسيحيين، لكن اللافت أيضًا أن النسبة عند المسلمين هي أقل من السابق”.

Adra expressed concern over Lebanon's aging population, stressing that the focus should not only be on sectarian issues but also on the broader demographic shift toward an aging society.
In an interview with “Lebanon Debate,” Adra explained that several factors contribute to this demographic decline. He pointed out that there has been a decrease in birth rates, exacerbated by the financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other challenges facing Lebanon. However, Adra believes these are not the sole reasons for the aging of the Lebanese population.
Adra's analysis emphasizes the decline in marriage rates, the rise in divorce rates, and the decrease in birth rates. He argues that these trends are largely driven by changes in lifestyle and economic factors. Specifically, the reduction in marriages, coupled with an increase in divorces and lower birth rates, reflects the broader economic difficulties faced by Lebanese families. Emigration also plays a role, contributing to lower marriage and birth rates.
Adra firmly believes that Lebanon is becoming an aging society, and he plans to release a detailed study that will categorize marriages, divorces, and births by sect. This study is expected to reveal the extent of the crisis, indicating that population growth among Muslims is higher compared to Christians, though the rates are declining for both groups.
