Position Overview

The Employment Specialist plays a critical role in empowering clients to achieve financial self-sufficiency through meaningful employment. This position is responsible for managing client services, maintaining accurate documentation, and collaborating effectively with team members to meet performance targets. Key responsibilities include employment preparation, job readiness training, placement support, career development, and follow-up services. Additionally, the Employment Specialist fosters relationships with local employers to create job opportunities for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employer Engagement: Build and maintain long-term relationships with local employers to identify job opportunities suitable for clients.
  • Client Support: Guide clients through the employment process, from job searches to hiring procedures.
  • Training Programs: Conduct comprehensive intake, assessments, orientations, and job readiness training sessions, both individually and in groups.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate digital and physical records of client attendance, assessments, and services provided.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track client job performance, wages, and satisfaction levels of both clients and employers.
  • Post-Placement Assistance: Address any ongoing employment needs and issues for clients and employers.
  • Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate reporting, including database management and case notes.
  • Career Development: Develop and coordinate training programs that enhance clients' career prospects.
  • Team Support: Supervise and mentor program interns and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, social sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant experience in human services preferred.
  • Job Market Knowledge: Familiarity with the U.S. job search process and local job market is strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent time management, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in spoken and written English is required; additional languages spoken by refugees are a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online databases.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance.

Working Environment

  • Office Setting: The role involves working in a standard office environment in San Diego County, including hybrid remote work options and occasional field visits.
  • Schedule: Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5 PM, with potential evening or weekend work required.
