المخاوف في محطات التزلج: الأرز والمزار
في محطات التزلج الشهيرة مثل “الأرز” و“المزار”، أبدى القيمون عليها قلقاً كبيراً بسبب التأخر في تساقط الثلوج. إذ قال إيلي فخري، مدير محطة التزلج في “الأرز”، لصحيفة “نداء الوطن”، إن شهر كانون الثاني كان بمثابة “مؤشر خطر” على الموسم، حيث كانت جبال الأرز على وشك أن تتحول إلى اللون البني بعدما ذاب الثلج عنها تقريباً. ولكن مع قدوم المنخفض الجوي الذي بدأ بتغطية الجبال بالثلوج، بدأ الأمل في عودة النشاط يتجدد.
وأشار فخري إلى أن المحطة تواجه أيضاً مشكلة أخرى تتعلق بالتحقيق بشأن قطع كابل “التلسياج” الأساسي، وهو ما يؤثر جزئياً على عمل المحطة. وناشد المسؤولين بسرعة حل هذه المشكلة لتسهيل انطلاق الموسم بشكل كامل.
أما شربل سلامة، أحد مؤسسي مدارس التزلج في “المزار”، فقد تحدث عن التأثير الاقتصادي الكبير لتأخر بداية الموسم، مشيراً إلى أن مئات العائلات تعتمد على موسم التزلج كمصدر رزق. مقارنةً بالعام الماضي، الذي شهد موسماً طويلاً امتد حتى نيسان، فإن التأخير هذا العام ألحق أضراراً كبيرة بالقطاع.
الأرصاد الجوية: عودة الثلوج تدريجياً
من جانبها، أكدت جوسلين أبو فارس، رئيسة قسم التقديرات في مصلحة الأرصاد الجوية، أن لبنان شهد في الأيام الأخيرة أول تساقط للثلوج تحت ارتفاع 1000 متر. حيث وصل الثلج إلى ارتفاع 700 متر في المناطق الشمالية و800 متر في جرود كسروان، مع سماكة تصل إلى 70 سم في بعض المناطق. وتوقعت أن يستمر المنخفض الجوي الحالي حتى فجر اليوم، مما سيزيد من تراكم الثلوج، خصوصاً على ارتفاعات تتجاوز 1200 متر.
أبو فارس أكدت أيضاً أن التحضيرات لموسم التزلج يمكن أن تبدأ الآن، وأن هناك توقعات بوصول منخفض آخر في نهاية الأسبوع المقبل، مما يساعد في الحفاظ على الثلوج ويمنح فرصة لتعويض الخسائر التي تكبدها القطاع السياحي.
الأمل في العودة الكاملة للموسم

Lebanon experienced an unusual spring-like weather pattern in January, with snow largely absent from its mountain peaks, threatening the much-anticipated ski season that attracts thousands of Lebanese nationals and expatriates every year. This unprecedented climatic change raised concerns among ski resort managers and workers in the tourism sector, who heavily rely on the winter season to boost local economic activity.
Concerns in Ski Resorts: Cedars and Mzaar
In renowned ski resorts like “Cedars” and “Mzaar,” operators expressed significant concerns due to the delayed snowfall. Eli Fakhry, the director of the Cedars Ski Resort, stated to the “Nidaa Al-Watan” newspaper that January posed a great risk to the ski season, with the mountains nearly turning brown as the snow had melted almost entirely. However, with the arrival of the current low-pressure system, which began covering the mountains with snow, hope is being rekindled for the return of the ski season.
Fakhry also mentioned another challenge the resort is facing, related to an ongoing investigation into a cable car malfunction, which is partly hindering operations. He urged the authorities to expedite the resolution of the issue so that the season can proceed smoothly.
Meanwhile, Charbel Salameh, one of the founders of ski schools in Mzaar, discussed the economic damage caused by the delayed season, stressing that hundreds of Lebanese families rely on the ski season for their livelihood. When comparing to last year, which saw a long season extending until April, the delayed start this year has had a clear financial impact.
Weather Forecast: Snow Returns Gradually
Jocelyne Abu Fares, Head of the Upper Estimates Department at the Lebanese Meteorological Service, confirmed that Lebanon saw its first snowfall of the season under 1000 meters in elevation in recent days. Snowfall reached as low as 700 meters in northern regions and 800 meters in Kesrouan’s mountains, with snow thickness reaching 70 cm in some northern areas. She added that the current low-pressure system, which has affected Lebanon, is expected to last until the early morning, bringing more snow accumulations, particularly above 1200 meters.
Abu Fares also mentioned that preparations for the ski season can begin now, with forecasts suggesting another low-pressure system by the end of next week, which will help preserve the snow and offer the opportunity to make up for lost time in the ski resorts.
Hope for the Full Return of the Ski Season
Despite the concerns that loomed over January, the return of winter conditions is raising optimism for a complete ski season. As temperatures continue to drop, the snow remains on the peaks, allowing for a return of essential tourism activities and offering hope for the recovery of the ski industry.
